There’s so much to see at Commodore Park on the very north side of Magnolia, just across from the Ballard Locks.
Today there’s a train slowly crossing the trestle overhead and a toddler and his dad have stopped to watch this impressive event transpire. On other visits I’ve seen sea lions munching on salmon trying to make their runs up the fish ladder. It’s also fun to sit and watch the boat traffic from this less crowded side of the locks, as a woman is doing today with her dog perched on her lap.
As you approach the water, you’ll find an entrance to the fish ladder viewing area, which is well worth stopping to check out. It’s the closest you can get to these big salmon resting between jumps.
But, the coolest thing about this park is that you can cross the dam’s causeway to the other side of the locks… effectively creating the best shortcut from Magnolia to Ballard.
