Nearly $2.5 million from Pro Parks funds went into transforming a site near the Ballard Library branch into Ballard Commons Park.
Now, this sounds like a lot of money for a park. But, check out some of the detailed plans and drawings and you realize this is a pretty amazing neighborhood park.
The summer spray park has concrete features shaped like sea shells that spray water on squealing kiddos. The new skate bowl looks pretty cool, especially if you stand on the top and stare down into the bottom of the pit–an impressive drop.
You’ll find lots of places to pull up a seat including benches, a small lawn and even some concrete couches. Trees and planters line the park providing a little more green to the mostly concrete setting.
Like any well-planned central neighborhood park, Ballard Commons Park, which was completed in 2005, is accessible to all its local residents. There are places for folks in wheelchairs, as well as those zipping in on skateboards, to enjoy this nice park.
I’d say money well spent.
