I have found the solution for busy parents who want to stay fit, but don’t have the time to go to the gym. It’s called Atlantic Street Park.
I don’t know why nobody thought of this before. Take a neighborhood park. Put in some great playground equipment to keep kids happily entertained. Add outdoor fitness stations. Parents get to work out while their kids play. It’s brilliant.
Atlantic Street Park, just off Rainier Ave. S. in South Seattle, has arranged LifeTrail equipment stations around its colorful playground. Now, the stations aren’t designed for elite athletes (in fact, the company specializes in serving retirement communities), but the exercises are still useful and relevant to any parent (or grandparent) who wants to do something more than just sitting on a bench while their kids play. You can do various stretches, lunges, bench step and arm exercises.
The park is small, and everything is arranged so that parents never have to take their eyes off their kids while they exercise.
I hope this becomes a more common sight in Seattle parks. What a great way to get the whole family more active.

Thanks for the great description. I love the idea of getting some exercise while my grandson (age 3) plays. I will definately take him there!

Do you know of any other parks with this type of combination of playground with adult fitness area?
Check out my article for ParentMap.com with more parks that feature exercise equipment for adults and playgrounds for kids: https://www.parentmap.com/article/parks-that-help-parents-stay-active-seattle-and-king-county
Anne, I’ve been on the look-out for other parks like this, but I don’t know of any yet.
