Don’t plan to drop by T.T. Minor Playground for a trip down the slide if you’re visiting during school hours. The park is officially closed to the public, as it is used by the elementary school next door.
But, school’s out for summer now, and this park is probably a busy summer hang out for neighborhood kids looking to burn off some energy in a safe place.
I like that the city is trying to replace asphalt with greenery, like grass and plants. This park is one of the first in Seattle’s “Grey to Green Initiative.” It’s also a designated “pesticide-free” park. Pretty important thing for a place packed with kids.
Thomas T. Minor was a prominent civic leader and a Seattle Mayor in the late 1800s. Tragically, he drowned on a duck hunting expedition while trying to canoe to Whidbey Island. The park, elementary school and Seattle’s Minor Avenue are all named in his honor.
