Not actually a city of Seattle public park, Waterfall Garden Park is the site of the first UPS headquarters. The Annie E. Casey Foundation took over the site in 1977 and had it developed into a park, which is now a well known park in the Pioneer Square neighborhood.
If you are a visitor and are scoping out nearby Occidental Square, take the time to detour a block over to Waterfall Garden Park. If you’re a Seattleite who’s never ventured through one of the two wrought iron gates, you are missing out on a lovely lunch spot.
The 22-foot-tall waterfall is impressive in such a small, urban location. The constant sound of water is soothing to people needing a calming break from their work day. There are several small iron tables and chairs, as well as stone benches for seating. One of the nicest things about this park are the many stone planters filled densely with flowers and green shrubs, making it feel like you’re lunching in a garden nursery.
Do a circle through the small park and you’ll find a couple of other small water features. Don’t miss the beautiful arched skylight bringing in plenty of light even on dark days.
In the winter this park is only open until 3:45 p.m.
