Popular Richmond Beach Saltwater Park gets all the attention in Shoreline, but this week I found a new park just north of it with an interesting name and great views of the Puget Sound.
This is a kid- and wheelchair-friendly spot with flat paths and a nice playground. Take the ramp up to a wooden lookout where signs talk about the history of the railroad, which runs between the park and the beach. Unfortunately, there’s no beach access here because of the train tracks but the views are worth a visit. A lawn is great for picnicking. Don’t miss the cool salmon-inspired art piece by James Madison.
The name is the Native American Lushootseed term for this part of Shoreline. This area was formerly a pump station before it was turned into a park in 2009.
