Although Seattle has no shortage of waterfront parks, it’s always exciting when new spots are discovered or old spaces are upgraded. It’s thanks to Friends of Waterway 18 that this mini park exists in its current state today. That group of neighbors partnered with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and the Seattle Parks Foundation to fund the upgrade in 2010.
Volunteers removed invasive plants and replaced them with natives and created a more natural shoreline that better supports wildlife and human-life. On the topic of the latter, this is a great place to launch a kayak, canoe, or outrigger. In fact, two groups were practicing rowing outrigger canoes on a recent sunny evening.
You’ll also find a private dock that is used by the Sea Scouts and other groups.
I spotted what I believe was a beaver on my visit, confirmed by a woman I met at the park who frequents the park regularly.
