It’s rumored that there are more dogs than kids in the city of Seattle, and with Belltown’s growing density, it’s no surprise that this neighborhood wanted a dog park.
Regrade Park was acquired in the 1970s and is now one of 11 off-leash parks in the city.
However, if I was a dog, I’d ask my owner to skip this park and take me down to the waterfront instead. There’s no way around the fact that this part of Belltown has some less than desirable features: litter, loitering, some questionable characters.
But, there’s new reason to be hopeful. The city is sketching out plans to turn Bell Street into a long park boulevard. This would be a great way to bring more green space to this neighborhood and make an attractive place for dogs–and humans–to enjoy.
