It’s not surprising that people who live near Lowman Beach Park like to keep this little treasure a secret. It’s like having waterfront property without the astronomical property taxes. That’s what’s so great about parks. You get access to some amazing places for free.
And, Lowman Beach Park, just north of Lincoln Park in West Seattle, is definitely one of those special spots.
Besides a tennis court and swing set, there’s not much else to this park except the water access. But, the water access is fabulous with 300 feet of shoreline on the Puget Sound. Bring your kids during a really low tide and they can occupy themselves for a long time exploring the tide pools and looking for sea creatures hiding under rocks. Actually, you see just as many adults climbing around on the beach during the spectacular low tides.
This is also a lovely place to sit on a piece of driftwood on a summer evening and watch the sun set over the Olympics.
Lowman Beach Park was given to the city by a logging company in 1909. So, these lucky nearby residents have it to thank for “their” beautiful waterfront property.
