It’s a cool urban maze that many longtime Seattleites have never set foot in. Freeway Park, which crosses Interstate 5 and spills out of the back of the Convention Center, is worth exploring. This fun park is a great place to walk your dog, sneak in an outdoor lunch break or walk off some office stress. Check out the map in the main plaza to get a sense of the scope of the park and all its nooks and crannies. You can even take your work outside to one of the benches, since this is one of the city’s wifi-enabled parks.
Completed in the 1970s, Freeway Park has been cleaned up and revamped a few times over the past decade or so. Now with better lighting, trimmer shrubs and new benches, the park feels more welcoming and gets more use.
In addition to several outdoor entrances, you can access the park from the fourth floor of the Convention Center. This is a great way for wheelchair and stroller visitors to enjoy this interesting public space.
