Location: South Seattle/Rainier Beach
Address: 8650 55th Ave. S.
Acreage: 0.1
The Parks Department Web site says Beer Sheva Park is only a tenth of an acre, but I can’t see how that’s true.
This park is a large waterfront spot right off the main drag in the Rainier Beach neighborhood. In addition to the big grass lawn dotted with tall trees, you’ll find a great playground, tennis courts, plenty of picnic tables and benches. That’s a lot for a fraction of an acre.
This park melds into the Atlantic City Boat Ramp, which by the way, the Parks Department claims is 6 1/2 acres. Not so by my estimate. I think some boundary lines have gone awry.
Anyway, this has to be a great place to hang out on a hot day with breezes from the lake and nice views of Mercer Island and the Cascades.
The park was renamed in the 1970s in honor of its new sister city Be’er Sheva, Israel. Our sister city citizens even returned the favor and named one of their parks Seattle Garden.
