Chinook Beach Park

Location: South Seattle
Address: Rainier Ave. S. and Ithaca Pl. S.
Acreage: 2.4

I was walking along the Lake Washington waterfront following Rainier Ave. S. as it curves south, and I thought I spotted a Seattle Parks department sign. I went down a short, but very steep driveway and found a secret spot: Chinook Beach Park.

In 2004 the city took an eroding slope, concrete bulkhead and crumbling parking lot and restored the area into a wonderful piece of shoreline.

The park now serves as a safe place for young salmon to hide from predators in shallow waters. The hillside is carefully planted with native vegetation.

I feel like I found a very special spot.
