For some reason Seattleites love to put their old couches out on the street with a free sign attached. I guess they’re really expecting someone to drive by in a pick-up truck and say, “You know what we really need? A mildewed pink and yellow paisley couch!”
That’s the reason I almost mistook Ballard Corners Park for someone’s front yard. From a half-block away I saw a couch and chair sitting out in the grass. I was amused to see when I got closer that this furniture set was actually made of concrete and was part of a new park in the Ballard neighborhood.
This cleverly designed park has other fun little touches like a kids climbing structure, rain gardens and an entry that commemorates a small grocery store that sat on the north side of this lot for 50 years.
