Just to the east of the Woodland Park Zoo is the lesser known Woodland Park. It’s also a zoo of some sort, just not with quite so exotic animals. Instead of paying $9 to see some elephants and gorillas, you can gaze at an expanding colony of rabbits and perhaps some crows or pigeons for free. For amusing human-watching, you’ll find Seattleites engaged in whimsical games such as lawn-bowling, horseshoes and croquet.
There’s plenty to do at this park that creates a convenient bridge between the zoo and Green Lake. There are nice wooded hiking and mountain biking trails. Dog owners can take advantage of the dog park that’s tucked into the forest. Rolling hills make for nice picnic spots.
There’s even a running track and also a skate park. In fact, you can watch a video of the skate park, which was finished in 2008, on YouTube.
