Peace Park is that small greenspace with an interesting sculpture that catches your eye right before you drive onto the southbound lanes of the University Bridge. The best way to reach this tricky spot is from an almost-hidden staircase leading up from the Burke-Gilman Trail below.
That sculpture is titled Sadako and the Thousand Cranes by Daryl Smith. It commemorates the Hiroshima bombings of World War II, and the park was dedicated in 1990 on the 45th anniversary of that terrible event.
The park was conceived by a World War I veteran and professor of forestry at the University of Washington.

I see the Peace Park is not being cared for right now. Could volunteers (a group of veterans) work in the park to bring it back to normal use?
Thank you for your reply.
