Yesler Playfield, just behind Yesler Way and the Yesler Community Center, features a nice playground with new equipment. There’s a great climbing structure, swings and one of the best kid-sized climbing walls I’ve seen at a Seattle park.
The adjacent ballfield is a bit worn, but it provides a big open play space and a little bit of a view of Beacon Hill and downtown.
The park, street and community center are named for Henry Yesler, whose sawmill sat at the bottom of Yesler Way. Some historians think this street was the one used to slide logs down the steep hill… i.e. the famous “skid road.” He was also one of Seattle’s first mayors.
