For a long time Lewis Park on the north end of Beacon Hill was a dense greenbelt with no accessibility. Enter Friends of Lewis Park, a community group that started removing invasive species and planting native trees in 2007.
Regular work parties have tamed the jungle, and plans are now in the works for a more accessible community park, which may include trails, a gathering area and viewpoints.
This section of Beacon Hill is rich with walkable areas connecting some great Seattle parks. For a nice walking route, park at Dr. Jose Rizal Park and take in views of the city. Then, stop by Lewis Park, followed by Sturgus Park and Daejeon Park. If you’re feeling ambitious, you can continue east to Atlantic Street Park and Jimi Hendrix Park. Then cross over to the other side of I-90 for Judkins Park.
