Large red gears sitting near the shore stood out like beacons against the gray sky and gray gravel on the drizzly day I visited 8th Avenue South Park. The gears, which reminded me of anchors, apparently came from an old bridge.
This park in the South Park neighborhood has a good waterfront location along the Duwamish. On a sunny day, this would be a nice spot to check out activity in and around this busy river. You’ll find a couple of picnic tables and benches for seating. Steps lead down to a small beach where signs remind visitors not to swim and not to fish.
While you’re in the neighborhood, visit Duwamish Waterway Park about a third of a mile further southeast.
