Looking for a great summer day trip that features a visit to an amazing and little-known urban park?
Walk on the Bremerton Ferry from downtown Seattle and enjoy a gorgeous one-hour ride to Bremerton. Hop off the ferry, pick up lunch in the walkable downtown district and then enjoy a couple of leisurely hours at Harborside Fountain Park.
This waterfront park has great views of the Puget Sound, but it’s hard to draw your eyes away from the five impressive fountains that delight visitors every few minutes with giant sprays of water. The wading pools below the fountains are open for kids to explore (keep a close eye).
The fountains are surrounded by pleasant plants and trees that provide a little shade. The handful of benches and picnic tables get snatched up quickly in warm weather.
This is a great outing for families and Seattleites wanting to get out of town for the day without driving. For walkers interested in a longer trip, walk north one mile along Pacific Ave. to Evergreen Rotary Park, a 10-acre waterfront park.
