If you live on the Eastside (especially around the King-Snohomish border) and you have young kids Miner’s Corner is the place for you. This awesome, stroller- and wheelchair-friendly park was designed to maximize play and also keep a feeling of nature–tough to do with its location wedged within fast-growing suburban development.
Circle the park on the flat paved paths (kids can easily bike) for about a half-mile loop. It will take you around the playground (we’ll come back to that soon), into a small woods, through a meadow of tall grass and past a basketball court before depositing you back into the heart of the park. This is a good park to visit in bad weather months, and in this central area you’ll find a large covered shelter with picnic tables.
The playground is the star attraction, and it includes an impressive three-story climbing tower. What makes it really cool is that kids in wheelchairs can access most of the climber through a really long ramp that leads to a cool lookout tower. There are bridges, a fire pole, climbing walls and instruments to explore. A double twisting slide brings daring visitors back down to the ground.
Close to the playground is a really large sand box and a water play area–also accessible–so kids can get plenty sandy and wet as they explore. Tip: A replica of a dinosaur skeleton is hidden here to uncover.
