A group of determined dog owners (with the cute nickname KDOG) poured their time, money and energy into creating an off-leash park in Kirkland. This park is the result, which opened in 2012 near the busy Totem Lake area.
Park at the corner of 113th Ave. N.E. and N.E. 120th St. Then leash up your pup and follow the narrow dirt trail along a fence, which abuts a wetland area. Cute graphics on a series of signs give tips on how to be a good dog park user. (“This isn’t a day spa–no grooming in the park!”) When you reach the off-leash area you can enter through the fence and let your dog run free.
Ringed by dense trees, the off-leash area is set in a clearing where you’ll have some open sky making it welcoming even on dark winter days. Bring a lunch or a snack–there’s a picnic table just outside the fence.
The park is run all by volunteers, and KDOG has regular volunteer opportunities for people who want to help keep it a great place to play with your pet.
